Number of Connections - The Most Important Indicator in Network Service Functions

【Number of Connections】 refers to the network service system established by the server host (such as website, mail server, database, web filter, etc.),
the main monitoring item is 【Number of Connections】 (the network program of the server host is in the LISTENING state).

The connection number monitoring function can understand the server's busy indicators and performance, and can also analyze improper connection states caused by intrusions.
With 24/7 operation, these information can be detected, collected, and statistically analyzed, further assisting maintenance personnel in fully understanding the system's operational status.

【Number of Connections】 as a type of server monitoring item,
the monitoring target of system maintenance will be set according to the application function settings of the server host which may have multiple groups of IPs,
so the monitoring items will mainly collect and statistically analyze the number of established connections based on the host IP and network port (Socket Port).

Monitoring Purpose and Target
➢Detection Purpose: Count the number of connections (ESTABLISHED) to specific network ports and IP addresses.
➢Monitoring Target: Monitor based on local IP and communication port (Socket Port).
➢Alert Conditions: Set the threshold for the minimum and maximum number of connections.
➢Real-time Information: Provide data updates and alert publishing situations.
➢Information Collection: Organize the information of alert publishing and release times.
➢Emergency Response: Notify and execute preset programs when the threshold is reached.

Alert Threshold
Set the alert threshold according to the characteristics of the network service, including the minimum and maximum number of connections.
